Mekong Delta had always been important to Vietnam because of their rice production. This is the reason why the Rice Festival of Vietnam was held and organized in Mekong Delta. You can witness this celebration every after two years. This festival was observed to honor and promote Vietnam Rice not only in the country, but worldwide as well.
Through this celebration, entrepreneurs were given the opportunity to exchange rice production experiences, introduction of advanced technology and rice business as well as to promote culture and tourism. Ok Om Bok Festival
This is a festival that Khmer people from the Mekong Delta celebrate during the Full Moon with the aim of worshipping and showing gratitude to the moon during the Lunar Calendar of the year. The people, especially the farmers believed that this day must be celebrated because they had been a plentiful crop. And so, this is because the moon had been there to protect the farmers and their crops.
During this day, the people offer various foods from their crops. They also have colorful lanterns drop and fly along the Lake of Ba Om. Thac Con Festival
Another traditional festival known in Mekong Delta is the Thac Con or Coconut Offerings Festival. They usually celebrate this on the 15th day of the 2nd lunar month of the year. The people gather at the An Hiep Commune of Chau Thanh District to offer the flowers with a vase made of coconut. They had been celebrating this as a part of their culture because they are wishing for good harvest, peace, prosperity and happiness. Cow Racing Festival
Most of the time, you can only find cows quietly eating grass on the farm. They do not only exist to provide fresh cow’s milk. They are also a part of the festival in Mekong Delta. Anyway, the Cow Racing Festival is one of the most amazing and famous traditional festivals in the region. The festival starts on the 1st lunar calendar of the year.
